Los Angeles Generative Drawing, 2026

This work began by extracting images and textures from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and selecting assets that stood out to me as meaningful or visually interesting. Apartment facades, shop signs, bottles, trees, and fragments of interiors became material for a generative digital collage. These details help construct the game’s world, but they can easily pass unnoticed during play. Isolating them brings their imagery, textures, and everyday references into focus.

Using p5.js, I created a system in which these assets slide onto the screen, settle into random positions, and gradually overlap. I determine the collection of images and the rules for their movement, timing, and scale, while chance shapes their arrangement. Removed from their original locations and functions, the assets form unexpected relationships. The work becomes a way of looking closely at the fragments that make up a virtual place, then allowing those fragments to build a different kind of space.
